Helping young people play Go

Welcome to the Youth Go Trust!

We promote playing of the abstract strategy board game Go by young people: we provide promotional and educational material, and we offer financial support to hold or attend educational and competitive events.

The Trust has helped young people to attend youth tournaments both at home and internationally and has provided equipment to support the teaching of Go in schools and clubs.

We are a proud sponsor to the UK Youth Team.

The Trust was created in 2022 but has a much longer history. It subsumes the Castledine-Barnes Trust (2001-2022), which itself had taken over the work of the Castledine Trust (1979-2001) and the Susan Barnes Trust (1983-2001).

Charitable Status

The Trustees applied to HMRC for charitable status, and after making minor changes to the Trust Deed Charitable status was granted in April 2024.

This will enable donations to the Trust from individuals to qualify for Gift Aid.

Charity Commission

We are not registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission. Our relatively small size means that we are not obliged to register, and as HMRC has granted us charitable status for tax purposes there is no obvious benefit from registering with the Charity Commission.
